Chris Haigh Goalkeeping The Art of Goalkeeping: From Professional Goalkeepers

What is it like?

What is it like to be a goalkeeper? The truth is being a goalkeeper is difficult. It is emotionally and physically challenging, especially at the top of the triangle. The harsh reality of goalkeeping is that only 1% make it to professionals, and even then you can get dropped as quick as a flash.

What does it take to become a pro?

Determination. Determination is key if you want to become a pro. You need to have determination and desire to go pro to make it due to your mindset. Mindset is one of the most important things a goalkeeper should have because if you let a goal in you need to have the right mindset to carry on and not slump and become a worse version of yourself. You also need to be prepared. Practice and training are key, so the more you train and perfect your flaws the better goalkeeper you will become. This takes patience, and willingness to learn from the mistakes you are making. This is what separates a good goalie from a great one.

Is it hard to go pro?

Overall, it is quite difficult to become a pro with the percentage being extremely low. However, as spoken about in the previous section a lot of goalkeeping is your mindset and desire. If you do not want to go pro, more than likely you won't because you have a negative mindset. If you want it enough and you put the work in to get there, then yes it will be difficult but it is not impossible to get there. Work hard, work for you and your dreams.
